MN weather: Twin Cities at average snowfall for early December
While it might feel like it has snowed more than usual for early December, we’re actually right on average for a winter snowfall totals as we head towards Christmas.
The system is expected to hit western Minnesota by Tuesday afternoon and “could pack quite the punch” along the Interstate 94 corridor. Snow and wind will be more widespread and stronger on Tuesday, according to the weather service, with up to 6 inches predicted.
A winter storm is making its way out of the state Saturday night, with winter alerts expected to expire at midnight.

MN weather: Tracking snow, freezing rain on Tuesday
The BriefWe are tracking a clipper rolling out of the Dakotas on Tuesday.This could bring a potential burst of heavy snow north of the metro with a rain/wintry mix from the metro west-southwest.The winter weather will also come with some strong winds.
A winter storm system passing through the Midwest is expected to drop up to 7 inches of snow in parts of southern Minnesota. A winter weather advisory is in effect in the southern quarter of the state, while a winter storm warning has been issued for Nobles and Jackson counties, where between 5-7 inches of snow is possible.
Light snow on Friday morning may leave a quick coating and a few slick spots. A separate system on Saturday brings a stronger chance for accumulating snow over southern Minnesota. Subzero lows return Sunday and Monday before a small temperature rebound early next week, which could be accompanied by more snow.
