Within 5 years I bet all app based remote starts are going to be a subscription service. The last 3 vehicles I’ve owned were subscription based, some were better than others. This isn’t a new thing. At least the Subaru subscription is significantly cheaper than my Ram.
To the best of my knowledge, Subaru hasn’t done the “hidden” remote start for at least 4 years. I can’t remember what years, but if you factory ordered remote (NOT dealer installed) it worked by pressing lock 3 times. A 2023 will certainly not have it. Also, the phone app is cheaper. Pay for it for the longest you can, and if you decide to get rid of the car, they reimburse you what ...
Subaru wants you to use their MySubaru app/service and pay a subscription. So the only way to get a fob-based remote start is to buy one, OEM or aftermarket, and have it installed (or do it yourself).
I use both the MySubaru app and the Subaru OEM remote starter. If you are going to install a remote start system, be aware only the Subaru kit allows you to use your keyless start fob to activate the system in addition to the fobs that are included with the kit.
2019 Crosstrek limited, starlink active, remote start for iphone app works fine. At times it would be more convenient to start the car with my fob. I haven't found a way to do this and suspect that the starlink mobile app has replaced the fob's ability to remote start. Am I correct? Doug
The next part all depends on how YOU want to start the car as you have some options in heating and cooling, vents, heated seats, etc. When you click on remote start in you MySubaru app, the execute.json POST will have all the form data you need. Keep in mind though, some models of Subaru do not allow for some features to be toggled remotely.
EDIT 4: Temporary baindaid / workaround to get your remote start to work. It won't work if you're outside keyfob range, but if you unlock the vehicle with your keyfob and then immediately do the remote start via the MySubaru app, it will lock the vehicle and remote start it successfully.
From what I’ve heard. You probably have app based remote start available, for a subscription through the MySubaru app. I believe several years are included in the cost of a new car, but it’s non transferable. Meaning you’ll have to pay the subscription. Otherwise Subaru offers a hardware remote start, it requires a second (long range) fob that just starts the car. For my 2015 it was ...
Starlink is Subaru's integrated, factory installed system for remote start (not dealer installed) and a gateway via bluetooth to mimic your phone system onto the 11" screen for hands free yakking and reading texts.
New Subaru Models Already Require It" by Torque News. I'm a little confused and I was hoping for some clarification. Is remote start only available if you have a subscription to Subaru Starlink or is that just to use the phone app for remote start? Does the key fob work regardless of subscription? Thanks in advance for your response!
